Dr Anna Chattaway

Clinical Psychologist

Hello, my name is Anna and I work as a registered HCPC Clinical Psychologist in Stourbridge (West Midlands). I have 8 years’ experience working across NHS mental health services, private and charitable settings. Throughout my career, I have supported clients across the entire lifespan, though specialise in working with children, young people and families.

I enjoy working with children and young people, supporting them throughout their unique challenges and developmental stages. I incorporate creative techniques to allow young people to express themselves in a safe and supportive environment, whilst working systemically to recognize the importance of their wider social context, including family dynamics, school and other learning environments and peer relationships.

Outside of my associate role, I work part time in an NHS Perinatal Community Mental Health Team, supporting women and their families throughout the perinatal period to address a range of emotional difficulties that they may be experiencing. Drawing from my own experiences as a new mother, I understand the profound transition to parenthood and strive to help families come together during difficult times in order to resolve problems and strengthen family connections.

My approach

My therapeutic style is both integrative and person-centred, allowing me to tailor my approach to best fit the unique needs of the child, young person or family. However, I mainly draw upon cognitive, systemic, and compassion-focused approaches.

These frameworks allow me to explore the stories that shape clients life’s, the systems in which they live, and the deep compassion necessary for healing and growth. Whether a client is experiencing challenges such as anxiety, low mood, trauma or adjusting to the transition of different roles and life experiences, my goal is to provide a safe and supportive space to help young people and families better understand themselves. Together in sessions, I aim to support clients to uncover the strengths and resources that they already have, to develop kinder ways of relating to themselves and to promote stronger relationships to those around them.

As a mother to my young daughter I understand the challenges of a busy life, though outside of work, I deeply value finding time to connect and be present with those relationships around me, whether that’s being outdoors walking with my family or running, or cooking a nice dinner to sit down and watch a film to.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I hope it has helped to learn a little bit about me and how I might be able to support you on your journey.

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Birmingham between 2019 to 2022, with clinical placements across a variety of settings, including within a CAMHS, a Community Learning Disability Team, an Older Adults Enhanced Community Mental Health Team and an Early Intervention for Psychosis Service. My specialist placement was within a Maternal Mental Health Service, supporting women following perinatal loss, where I completed my Doctoral Thesis exploring British-Pakistani women’s care experiences following perinatal loss.

Prior to Clinical Psychology training, I worked within Forensic Inpatient settings and within a Mental Health in-reach team of a prison. I have also completed a BSc (Hons) Psychology with Criminology degree (2012 - 2015) and a MSc in Forensic Psychology degree (2015 – 2016), both at Nottingham Trent University.
