Our commitment to sustainability
Here at Evolving Families, are not only committed to enhancing mental well-being, but also nurturing a sustainable future for generations to come. We believe in the power of therapy to promote personal growth and positive change, but we also recognise the interconnectedness between individual well-being and the health of our planet.
That is why, for every client session our clinicians old, we pledge to plant a tree. It is our way of giving back to the environment for offsetting the carbon footprint associated with our professional activities. To make this happen, we have partnered up with Tree-Nation, an organisation dedicated to fighting climate change and reforesting the world.
Why Trees
Trees and forests are often referred to as the "lungs of the planet" for a very simple reason: they produce oxygen. It is estimated that 1 acre of trees can provide the oxygen requirements of 12 people for a year.
They purify water, air and create better social conditions. They benefit the environment by providing homes for various forms of life, cooling our climate and improving our soil
Trees and nature have been shown to improve mental health and cognition in both healthy individuals and those suffering from mental illness.
Why we are doing this:
We strongly believe that the activity of a company should not have a negative impact on the environment. We want to make a positive contribution to the planet, the climate and our kids, involving our clients in the process so that we can start reforesting the planet together!
As a therapy service, it may not appear that we produce much in the way of carbon emissions, but here are some of the ways we have identified:
- Office sustainability: Our office uses everyday essentials such as electricity, water, heating. Whilst we work hard to reduce our energy consumption such as energy efficient lighting, there is naturally some things we can’t avoid.
- Eco-friendly practices: As therapists we use a lot of paper. We strive to minimise this use and encourage digital communication and documentation whenever feasible. Some of our professional mandates include storing information for 7 years, and some items are print only due to copyright.
- Digital usage: Going digital where possible is a positive step, however there are many hidden emissions including our website, social media platforms, servers for our records systems.
- Personal commitment: Beyond our professional activities, each member of our team is dedicated to promoting a health life and environment.
By planting a tree for every client seen, we're not only offsetting our carbon usage but also contributing to reforestation efforts and biodiversity conservation. It's our way of embodying our values of holistic well-being and environmental stewardship in everything we do.
ABOUT TREE NATION
Tree-Nation is an organisation that offers individuals and companies the possibility to contribute to reforestation. Deforestation is one of the main contributors to climate change. It comes in many forms: wildfire, agricultural clear cutting, livestock ranching, and logging for timber, among others.
The Tree-Nation platform brings together the largest number of tree planting projects around the world. You can select from over 300 tree species, in 70 different projects located in 4 different continents. Their focus is on the tropic region, since trees grow much faster there, thus capturing CO2 much faster – and we hope you agree that we are in a hurry to make a difference! Another reason for Tree-Nation’s choice of the tropic regions is that these areas are suffering from heavy deforestation and therefore 85% of our terrestrial biodiversity is threatened, with many species on the brink of extinction. We would like to help them change this.
How it works
As a company, we want to contribute this for us and you. It doesn’t cost you anything and it is a living symbol of new growth and making positive change that we are working on together.
Every 3 months, we will conduct an audit of how many sessions each of our clinicians have held and will plant that many trees across a range of different projects. You don’t have to do anything, but you can follow our tree planting progress on our social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), or by visiting our forest page here (https://tree-nation.com/profile/evolving-families)
